Bhubaneshwar: The Odisha government is considering a comprehensive ban on beef consumption and cattle smuggling, following the example set by Assam.
Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan announced that the state is mulling the introduction of a new law to address these issues.
The proposed legislation aims to curb illegal activities related to cattle smuggling and beef consumption, which have been a growing concern in the state. Minister Harichandan emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting cattle and ensuring their welfare. “We are in the process of drafting a law that will impose strict penalties on those involved in cattle smuggling and beef consumption,” he stated.
This announcement comes in the wake of increasing incidents of cattle smuggling in Odisha. The state has already implemented several measures to combat this issue, but the new law is expected to provide a more robust framework for enforcement.
