Koraput: A 35-year-old man from Odisha’s Koraput walked for 33 km after she died in an auto-rickshaw while returning home from a hospital.

As per reports, one Samulu Pangi had admitted his ailing wife to a hospital in Sangivalasa in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh. However, the doctors there advised him to take her back home as she was not responding to treatment.

Pangi said he hired an auto-rickshaw for returning to his village but she died midway near Vizianagaram. The auto driver then dropped them on Chelluru Ring Road before leaving the spot.

Finding no other way, Pangi started walking towards home, which was still around 80 kilometres away, carrying his wife’s body on his shoulder.

Though many noticed the unusual scene of a man carrying a body on his shoulder, none of them came forward to help him as he headed towards his destination on the National Highway.

Some passersby spotted Guru near Vijayanagar and informed the local police.

Kiran Kumar, as ASI of Vijayanagar Rural Police, came to his aid and arranged an ambulance, in which the body was carried to the village.

It may be recalled here that Dana Majhi of Odisha’s Kalahandi had carried his wife’s body on his shoulder for around 10 km in August of 2016.
