Odisha Kendu Leaf Pluckers, Binders Receive Interim Cash Assistance


Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Sunday distributed the interim financial assistance to the kendu leaf pluckers, binders and seasonal workers.

As per the earlier announcement, the pluckers received Rs 1000 while binders and seasonal workers got Rs 15,00 each. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik distributed the amount at a special event here.

The cash assistance was deposited in the bank account of the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The government disbursed Rs 43 crore towards the assistance.

On the occasion, the chief Minister said he is very much happy in the joy of the poor people. Patnaik said that he would always remain with the poor people and continue to struggle for their right.

The CM also reiterated his demand for withdrawal of 18 per cent GST on Kendu leaves as it is the source of bread and butter of the poor.

Beneficiaries of Nuapada, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Angul, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Boudh, Keonjhar, Deogarh and Bolangir received the government aid today.

Patnaik had announced the package for the welfare of around 8 lakh Kendu leaf pluckers and other persons engaged in the trade on Wednesday.
