Bhubaneswar: In view of difficulties in allotting quarters to the newly elected legislators, the Odisha government is planning to build multi-storey quarters by razing the existing structures at MLA Colony in Bhubaneswar.
As per reports, the matter has been discussed at a meeting chaired by Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro on the makeover plan of Assembly recently.
Patro has directed the Chief Engineer (building) to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on the proposal.
Sources said the government is planning to demolish over 60 single-storey quarters constructed at MLA Colony and to build new multi-storey quarters that will be allotted to the newly appointed legislators.
It is pertinent to mention here that several government quarters at MLA Colony have been occupied by the former legislators and ministers even after completion of their tenures. Owing to less availability of vacant quarters, the newly elected MLAs are yet to get quarters for accommodation.
