Bhubaneswar: With an aim to make the present generation aware of the sacrifices and contribution of Mahatma Gandhi towards the nation, the state government has decided to install Gandhi statues in all district headquarters.
As per reports, State Culture Secretary Manoranjan Panigrahi informed about the same today.
According to sources, the district headquarters where Gandhi’s statue is already there, the beautification work will be done on the statues.
Besides, as a tribute to the legendary personality, a Gandhi memorial will be set up in Cuttack where Bapu visited on March 23, 1921 during the Non-Cooperation Movement.
It may be noted that Gandhi arrived at Cuttack on March 23, 1921. He conducted his first meeting at Qadam-e-Rasool in Cuttack on March 24 to propagate his ideas of the non-cooperation movement. He also addressed women at Binod Bihari in the city and later a huge crowd at the Kathajodi riverbed in the evening.
