Odisha Govt Announces Rs 6 Cr For Tokyo Paralympics Gold Medalist Pramod Bhagat

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has announced a cash award of Rs 6 crore for Paralympics Gold medalist Pramod Bhagat.

He will be handed over the cheque by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik after his arrival in Bhubaneswar. He has also been offered for a Group-A level government job, said Sports & Youth Services Department.

Notably, Pramod Bhagat became the first Indian badminton player to win a gold medal at the Olympics or Paralympic Games.

He clinched the yellow metal in the badminton singles SL3 event at the Tokyo Paralympics. The 33-year-old reigning world champion defeated Great Britain’s Daniel Bethell 21-14, 21-17 in 45 minutes to secure a top podium finish.
