Bhubaneswar: In preparation for the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), Odisha has constituted 14 sub-committees to ensure the successful organization of the event. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja led a high-level review meeting to oversee the preparations, emphasizing the importance of showcasing Odisha’s rich culture and attracting investments.
Scheduled to be held from January 8 to 10, 2025, in Bhubaneswar, the event will see the participation of delegates from around 100 countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit, underscoring the significance of the occasion. The focus will be on highlighting Odisha’s cultural heritage and promoting the state as a prime investment destination.
The sub-committees, comprising senior officials from various departments, are tasked with managing different aspects of the event, including logistics, hospitality, and cultural programs. The Tourism Department has already booked 3,700 rooms in various hotels for the accommodation of overseas Indians and other delegates. Additionally, efforts are underway to beautify 28 tourist spots and 55 roads in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri.
Chief Secretary Ahuja expressed confidence in the state’s ability to host a successful event, stating, “Our aim is to bring Odisha’s culture and strengths to the forefront and attract investment. Odisha is a peaceful state with political stability and ample business opportunities.”
The event will also feature the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards, conferred by President Droupadi Murmu, recognizing the contributions of the Indian diaspora to India’s development.
