Odisha floods: Heavy rain wrecks havoc in several districts

Bhubaneswar: Heavy downpour triggered by a deep depression battered several parts of the state creating a flood-like situation and disrupting train services in some areas.

Reportedly, several villages in the Kantamal block of Boudh district have been marooned after water level swells in Tel and Khadang rivers. Khamanamunda’s Deogaon, Rengali’s Kamaghata and Gambharipada has been inundated in rainwater.

Similarly, vehicular communication between Kantamal-Manmunda and Kantamal-Baliguda has been disrupted following the floods as bridges are submerged in the area.

Incessant rainfall also affected normal life in Baliguda as a culvert at Bataguda on NH 59 washed away by floodwater leading to disruption in communication between Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Rayagada.

Icchapur’s Kotanipadar village is in knee-deep water that has cut off communication from at least three villages including Jaraliguda, Laharapadara and Kutunipadara.

Reports on waterlogging and inundation also surfaced in Bolangir town and adjoining areas following heavy downpour.

Collectors of four districts including Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Bargarh declared the closure of all schools and colleges today.

Meanwhile, ODRAF teams have launched an operation to shift people from low lying areas to safer places.
