Bhubaneswar: The State unit of Odisha Congress demanded a compensation package for the farmers whose harvests were destroyed due to the unseasonal rainfall triggered by cyclonic storm Jawad.
Addressing a press conference, State Congress spokesperson Padmakar Guru said, “The district-level Congress leaders have done ground surveys and found that the farmers are in shock and distress due to the huge crop loss”.
“The farmers are helpless and now it has become difficult for them to earn their living. The State government should assess the damages and provide financial assistance to the farmers immediately,” said Guru.
The party has also said that they will stage a protest on December 15 if their demands are not met at the earliest.
