Odisha CM praises Malkangiri doctors, health staff for saving lives of COVID affected woman, her newborn baby

Malkangiri: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has praised the doctors and health staff of Malkangiri district for saving the lives of a pregnant woman and her newborn child.

The Chief Minister’s Office shared the news on the official Facebook page and Twitter stating that the efforts of the doctors & staff of Malkangiri is praiseworthy as they saved two precious lives when the scourge of coronavirus is looming large.

The woman was infected with the dreaded coronavirus. Doctors and health staff of Malkangiri district headquarters hospital tried their level best to save the lives of both the mother and child on Monday.

The woman’s test report was positive and it was known after she delivered the child safely. The newly born child was affected with jaundice. Therefore, the child was treated with phototherapy. CDMO Dr. Shakti Prasad Mishra, Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra of COVID Hospital, and Dr. Arun Kumar Padhi along with health staff saved the lives of the child and the mother.

Malkangiri Collector Manish Agarwal, in a series of tweets, informed that a two-bed maternity ward, labour room, a basic OT, and neonatal care center was conceptualised and set up at COVID Hospital in Malkangiri nearly two months ago. This was done after realising the need of delivery cases for pregnant women who may contact coronavirus and the need for special care of the new-born babies.

The District Collector said that it was put to use when an icteric neonate was administered photo-therapy through a radiant warmer to save his life and improve his health. This was an excellent job done by Health Team in Malkangiri in achieving the feat.

Also, Malkangiri District Collector praised the team comprising Dr. K C Mahapatra, Authorized Medical Officer, COVID Hospital, Dr. Arun Padhi, and Dr. Shakti Mishra, CDM&PHO for their good work.

All doctors and paramedic staff at COVID Hospital, Malkangiri also deserve praise and they are the COVID Warriors in the true sense, he said.
