Odisha becomes lead state in AMRUT implementation


Bhubaneswar: Odisha has become a leading State in implementation of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme by bagging national award for three consecutive years beginning from 2015-16 to 2017-18 for being one among Top-3 performers at national level.

This was known from the State Level High Power Committee held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi today at the Secretariat here.

Taking review of the projects, Chief Secretary AP Padhi directed the departments to expedite implementation of the projects through inter-departmental coordination at the ground level.

Padhi further directed to complete the projects well before time safeguarding the quality of construction and ensure delivery of services to the people by the scheduled time, the meeting also decided to prioritise the drinking water, sewerage, septage and parks and playgrounds projects.

Presenting the updates, Odisha Housing & Urban Development Special Secretary and AMRUT Mission Director Prem Kumar Jha said, “The State has come up to 2nd position in implementation of the projects as per National level rating Framework assessment on October 26, preceded by Andhra Pradesh in 1st and Madhya Pradesh in 3rd positions.” “Previously, Odisha was also ranked among Top-3 performers at national level in the years 2015-16 and 2016-1. In these 3 years state has received incentive award of Rs 41.66crore,” he added.

While congratulating the department for achieving the incentive, CS Padhi directed to spend the amount in quicker and better implementation of the projects.

As per AMRUT guidelines, a set of 11 reforms are to be implemented by the state as well as ULBs within a period of 4 tears. Odisha has made countable progress in implementation of these reforms agenda, Assessment for the year 2017-18 showed that the achievement in this smatter had been more than 90 percent in all the 9 ULBs included under the AMRUt scheme.

According to available data, as of now as total of 191 projects have been sanctioned and taken up under AMRUT scheme, This included 130 water supply projects, 13 septage projects and 48 park projects. All these tenders have been tendered out and tender awards have been issued against 188 projects, So far 57 projects have been completed, These projects involve investment of Rs 1690 crore. These projects are being implemented in the cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Brahmapur, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Baripada.

Addition CS Forest and Environment Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, Additional CS Finance, Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Principal Secretary Water Resources Pradeep Kumar Jena, Works Secretary Nalinikanta Pradhan, Secretary Housing and Urban Development G. Mathivathnam, Mission director Prem Kumar Jha along with senior officer form the concerned department were present in the meeting.
