Bhubaneswar: The third day of the Odisha Assembly’s Budget session was adjourned twice on Wednesday amid pandemonium by the opposition Congress, BJP and BJD members.
The session began with a condolence motion moved by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over the death of MP Ladu Kishore Swain and freedom fighter and former MLA Priyanath Dey. Cutting across party lines, leaders paid condolence to the two leaders and observed a one-minute silence.
However, as soon as the House assembled for the Question Hour, both BJP and Congress members rushed to the well of the house shouting slogans. The legislators demanded demanding cancellation of Question Hour for a discussion on raised farmer issues and irregularities in paddy procurement in mandis.
On the other hand, BJD members also reiterated the long-standing demand for Special Category status for Odisha.
Unable to run the proceeding, Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat adjourned the House for an hour till 11.30 am. Later, the Speaker again adjourned the house till 3 pm after pandemonium continued.
