Odisha Assembly Informs ECI, Others On Padmapur MLA Death

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly on Thursday issued a notification regarding vacancy of Padmapur assembly constituency following the death of elected legislator Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha.

Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukh expressed condolences over the death of the law maker following which Assembly secretary Dasarathy Satpathy issued the notification which was published in the Odisha Gazette.

The copy of the notification has been sent to the Chief Election Commission, chief electoral officer, MPs, MLAs, Governor and chief minister.

Bariha had passed away on Monday at a hospital in Bhubaneswar following pro-longed illness. He was 64.

Born in 1958 in Padampur, the veteran BJD leader was a five-time MLA from Padampur. While Bariha won the first two terms in 1990 and 1995 on a Janata Dal ticket, he was re-elected from the seat in 2000, 2009 and 2019 on BJD ticket.

He had also served as Cabinet minister for ST and SC development in 2009 and was district president of Bargarh BJD.
