Sundargarh: A 25-year-old Odia girl, allegedly being sold off by her male friend, was rescued from Delhi.
As per sources, one Sankar Bage on March 3 took the girl hailing from Kucheita in Chandiposh area of Sundergarh district to Delhi on the pretext of marrying her.
However, the accused dropped the girl at an office in Punjabi Bagh and the girl later found out that she was sold off by her male friend.
Subsequently, she managed to contact her parents and narrated her ordeal.
The panicked family members immediately lodged a complaint with Chandiposh police on March 5. The police registered a case under Sections 370 and 374, but allegedly did not take any action initially to rescue the girl. Cops initiated the probe after a social activist intervened in the matter and urged the police to rescue the girl immediately.
But police expressed reluctance to visit Delhi before March 12.
Following complaint from the social activist, the members of the voluntary organisation swung into action and rescued the girl.
