Bhubaneswar: Swarna Prava Nayak, a nurse who serves at the Capital Hospital here, today said that nursing is the best profession and one can win the hearts of people and understand their pain and sorrow through the selfless service of a nurse.
Nayak was felicitated by the Odisha government on the occasion of World Nursing Day on Tuesday.
Nayak was one from the team that took care of the first COVID-19 positive case of the state who was successfully treated and discharged from Capital Hospital after his recovery.
When Chief Spokesperson on COVID-19 Subroto Bagchi at the Geeta Govinda Sadan here asked Nayak why she chose to be a nurse, she narrated her experience of how she first felt on being given the responsibility of taking care of the first COVID-19 positive case of the state.
Nayak said though she was a little frightened, she could come out with courage as a COVID-19 warrior because the nation and the world need the service.
She recalled a touching moment in her six years of career serving as a nurse at the Capital Hospital, Nayak said every day smilingly we would tell a cancer patient that she would get well soon though she very well knew that death was waiting to take her in its arms.
Nayak appealed to please to stay at home, stay safe. There is no reason to be scared of, she added. She also said to wear gloves and maintain social distancing and follow the rules and regulations of lockdown. Let us come together to defeat corona, she added.
