Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with an Odisha farmer to know how he got the benefit from PM-KISAN and Kisan Credit Card schemes.
PM Modi talked to Nabin Thakur, a farmer from Odisha’s Nuapada district on Friday virtually in this connection.
Thakur said he was given Rs 10,000 under PM-KISAN yojana so far and added that he has spent the sum on purchasing fertilizers, seeds and pesticides.
The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) yojana has dramatically changed his life for the good, the Nuapada farmer told PM Modi when asked about the provision.
Thakur said he has availed farm loans from bank at 4 percent interest rate with the help of this card. Before getting the card, he had to take loans from local landlords at 20 percent interest.
But, now he can purchase seeds, fertilizers and pesticides and do not have to live at others’ mercy, the Nuapada farmer said.
Thakur said he has landholdings of 40 decimal and he grows paddy. With such benefits he was looking forward to grow other crops as well, Thakur said.
The government on Friday released Rs 18,000 cr as the next installment of financial benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme in the bank accounts of nine crore farmers.
