Balasore: A notorious criminal, Rundu Mallick, was killed following a shootout with Gopalpur Outpost police within Khantapada police station limits in Balasore district on Wednesday.
The deceased criminal, hailing from the Jageswarpada area in Aruhabad, was very active in the area, the police said.
The accused Rundu Mallick had gained notoriety as more than 30 criminal cases were pending against him, the police adding them he managed to evade arrest multiple times as he used to flee into the sea after committing crimes.
Sources said today when the police had gone to arrest Rundu, a brief shootout took place between them. However, the notorious criminal was killed in the retaliatory firing by the police team.
This is the first encounter in Balasore after many years, it was learned.
