Notorious criminal injured in police firing in Kendrapara, held
Kendrapara: A notorious criminal was nabbed after sustaining injuries in a police firing at Deshapur under Derabish police limits in Kendrapara police limits in the wee hours today.
The arrested accused has been identified as Santosh Mallick (36), of Dobandha village under Pattamundai police limits in the district. Mallick was wanted for more than 40 criminal cases including murder, robbery and extortion, the police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Kendrapara Police’s special squad and Derabish Police intercepted Mallick near Chasakhand area while he was speeding away on a motorcycle.
On seeing the policemen Mallick opened fire on them in a bid to escape the spot. In retaliation, the cops fired and Mallick received bullet injury on his right knee.
The cops immediately overpowered him as he fell down and seized a pistol with one live bullet along with the bike from his possession. Mallick was then rushed to the Kendrapara district headquarters hospital (DHH) for treatment, source in the police said.
According to police, more than 40 criminal cases are registered against the nabbed history-sheeter in various police stations of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack and Rourkela.
