No Vaccines For 18+ In Bhubaneswar: BMC Commissioner

Bhubaneswar: As the entire Odisha is reeling under the COVID pandemic, vaccine shortage in the state capital has put a question mark on the inoculation of people aged between 18-44 years against the deadly virus.

The Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Sanjay Singh on Thursday admitted that the State Capital does not have enough doses of COVAXIN for the age group of 18-44 and also assured that it will be made available soon.

Speaking to reporters here, Commissioner Singh said,” As we have a lack of Covaxin doses for 45+ age group, we are dealing with a vaccine shortage for youths.”

“We had started the drive to vaccinate youths on May 3. So the cut-off date would be June 13 for the second dose for those who got their first dose on May 3. And I am sure we will receive more vaccines before that date.”

“Bhubaneswar is likely to witness a drop in positivity rate in the next 10 days. We are getting reports of crowding at markets. If people do not get in line we will have to be more strict in our approach to enforce lockdown,” he said.
