New Delhi: There are no takers for Congress chief post even as Rahul Gandhi remains adamant on his resignation as party chief, according to sources.
The grand old party has been reeling under leadership crisis ever since its humiliating defeat in the recently-held Lok Sabha elections.
According to sources, senior Congress leaders Venugopal Rao and AK Antony were offered the party chief post. But ,they have declined the proposal, sources added.
After poll debacle, Gandhi had offered to resign on May 25 during the meeting of Congress Working Committee (CWC).
His offer was outrightly rejected and he was asked him to continue as party chief.
According to reports, a high-level meeting will be held to discuss about the possible options for resolving the crisis arising out of Gandhi’s insistence to resign.
The sources said, the first option will be appointing a “senior party leader” as the interim chief.
The second option is to have a collective decision-making body. The last option that could be discussed is appointing several working presidents junior to Gandhi who will help him in the decision-making process of the party.
