Bhubaneswar: Koraput MP Saptagiri Ulaka today shot off a letter to Union HRD Minister over severe shortage of teaching staff in the Central University of Orissa in Koraput district.
“Even after ten years of establishment, the Central University of Orissa is grappling with severe shortage of teaching staff,” Ulaka wrote in the letter addressed to Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal.
“Central University of Orissa is the only university in India where there is no single professor,” Ulaka mentioned.
“As against 154 sanctioned posts of teaching staff, including professors, associate professors and assistant professors, the varsity has only one associate professor and 16 assistant professors for its 14 departments,” the letter further stated.
The Koraput MP also apprised the Union HRD Minister that even though the varsity runs sans sufficient teaching staff, the authorities have turned a blind eye to the issue.
Pointing out the acute shortage of teaching faculties in the varsity, Ulaka urged the Union Government for intervention into the matter in order to improve higher education in a tribal-dominated district like Koraput.
It is worth mentioning here that the Central University of Orissa is one of the 15 new Central Universities established by Parliament under the Central Universities Act, 2009.
