New Delhi: Union ministry for fertilizers and chemicals has said there is no shortage of medicines due to COVID-19 pandemic. It said the distribution is being streamlined.
The ministry said a strict vigil has been maintained on the availability and distribution of medicines in view of the emergency arising out of COVID-19 pandemic. The states and UTs are being constantly consulted over the stocks of pharmaceutical products.
The ministry said it has opened a control room with the number 011-23389840 and it is operational from 8 am to 6 pm.
Another helpline no 1800111255 on behalf of NPPA has also been opened and it is a 24-hour service. The helpline centres are set up to receive questions, complaints, and messages relating to COVID-19.
The medicine wing is maintaining close contact with ministries of health and family welfare, commerce and industry, the customs department and drug controllers of Centre and the states.
A close watch has been maintained by the medicine department since the eruption of deadly coronavirus in China. Efforts are on to ensure that there is no shortage of medicines in view of COVID-19 pandemic. The medicine wing of the department said the lockdown has cast its impact on the pharmaceutical industry but the issue is closely monitored.
The pharmaceutical industries have been advised to maintain an adequate amount of stock in view of the health emergency.
