No more red beacons for VIPs in Odisha from today

Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown on the VIP culture, there will be no more red beacons over VIP vehicles in Odisha from today following the order of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. However, the lal battis will be allowed only for emergency vehicles and enforcement agencies.

CM banned the use of red beacon with effect from today following the Union Cabinet’s decision taken to check the longstanding ‘VIP culture’.

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari made the announcement after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. The decision comes into effect from May 1, 2017. From May 1, no official or minister can use “lal battis”, which have come to symbolize “VIP arrogance” that causes inconvenience to people.

The decision was reportedly taken at a cabinet meeting today chaired by PM Narendra Modi.
