Puri: A team of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials on Friday assessed the effect of Cyclone Fani on world heritage monument at Konark and Puri Srimandir.
The high-level team stated that there was no structural damage to the Sun Temple during the near Super Cyclone.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) DG, Usha Sharma also visited Puri Srimandir to inspect damages by Cyclone Fani. She said repair work is going on in war-footing and restoration will be completed before Rath Yatra.
The team led by ASI DG Usha Sharma is on a visit to Odisha to survey the nature of damage caused by cyclone Fani to Jagannath Temple in Puri and Sun Temple in Konark.
The team assessed that by and large there is no structural damage to the Sun Temple.In a press release the team informed that there is some dislocation in the scaffolding provided for chemical cleaning at upper level which is being set right.
Besides, over 200 trees were uprooted which are being cleared. “The electric and illumination system including internet access has gone out of order. Restoration of infrastructure will take some time, the release said.
The chemical cleaning and consolidation of eastern face will be completed on priority. The monument will be restored back to normal in a fortnight, the release added.
The team also announced that Konark Sun Temple will be opened to public in next 2-3 days.
