Rourkela: In celebration of National Sports Day 2024 and to promote the FIT India campaign the Student Activity Centre (SAC) at NIT Rourkela organized a Table Tennis Tournament exclusively for female students.
The event, held on 26th August 2024 at the Dilip Tirkey Stadium-NITR, showcased the competitive spirit and sportsmanship of the participants. Muskan Agarwal won the first prize followed by Manaswita Ghose and Archita Dutta in the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Niranjan Panda, Dean of Student Affairs at NIT Rourkela, in the presence of Prof. Rajeev Kumar Panda, President of the Student Activity Centre (SAC). The tournament was organized by Prof. Mohd Khalid Gul, and Prof Venkata Ramana Naik, Vice Presidents of the Games and Sports Society under SAC, and Mr. C. Alagesan,(Student Activities and Sports Officer, NITR). All present on the occasion also took the Fit India Fitness Pledge. The award distribution ceremony was joined by Prof. Anil Singh (Head of Unit, Safety and Security, NITR) and Prof. Ananat Charan Pradhan (Professor In Charge of the Safety and Security, NITR) who handed out the prizes to the victorious participants.
NIT Rourkela will continue its celebration of National Sports Day with an upcoming annual swimming competition on 31st August 2024. This event is open to all residents of NIT Rourkela and promises to be another exciting occasion to mark the importance of sports and fitness in our lives. Under the FIT India initiative, NIT Rourkela aims to make fitness accessible and enjoyable through organising these events.
Each year, India celebrates National Sports Day on 29th August to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. In light of National Sports Day, all colleges, universities, and higher education institutions under the purview of the State/UTs Higher Education Departments are encouraged to organize sporting and fitness activities between the 26th to 31st of August 2024. Such initiatives will not only honour the spirit of National Sports Day but also promote a culture of health and fitness among students.
