Nabarangapur: The newly-constructed building of Kundei police station is yet to be inaugurated even though nine years have passed. The police station was devastated in an explosion triggered by Maoists in 2010.
More than 50 Red rebels had razed the Kundei police station, under Raighar block of Nabarangpur district, in the bordering area of Odisha and Chatishgarh, on July 15, 2010.
Since then the police station is running in the dilapidated house. There are only two rooms in the present building, where all the works are being done.
All the official activities, as well as the law and order situation controlling actions, was done at the Raighar police station. Recently, the police station was shifted to the present asbestoses-house after two and a half years.
After the landmine explosion, the Ultras have been showing their presence in the area by engaging in several violent activities. Poster and banners have also been found under the police station limits in the recent past.
Apart from this, the police station is running with an acute shortage of basic facilities and staff.
On the other hand, official data claimed that the Ultras have killed at least nine persons belonging from the police limits, while three persons were killed in a land mine explosion on April 23, 2018. Moreover, the rebels have killed as many as 12 persons suspecting them as police-informers.
When contacted, the police station inspector-in-charge, Shree Sagar said, they have been working under the asbestos roof as the new building’s construction work is yet to be completed.
