NIA nabs 2 persons in Mumbai’s Andheri with fake notes


Mumbai: Two persons were arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Mumbai’s Andheri and fake currency notes of Rs 2000 denomination with a face value of Rs 96,000 was seized from them on Saturday, an official said.

The arrested duo, identified as Saddam Salim Hawaldar and Fahad Naushad Chandiwala, are residents of Sakinaka and Santacruz respectively, the police said.

Acting on a tip-off that the duo would come to Marol area in Andheri to carry out transactions with the fake Indian currency notes (FICN), the NIA team nabbed them and recovered 48 such notes from them.

A case under relevant sections of the IPC, for possessing fake notes as well as instruments and materials for forging and counterfeiting notes, has been registered with the MIDC police station, said the official and added that further probe to unravel details of the FICN network operated by the duo was underway.
