NGT Directs Odisha Govt To Maintain Status Quo Of Ekamra Kanan Land
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has been asked to maintain the status quo on the plans to hand over 20 acres of land of the Ekamra Kanan to the General Administration Department (GA), informed The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Wednesday.
The order comes when Sushant Kumar Jena, a resident of Bhubaneswar filed the petition in the green court.
The bench of judge comprising two members–B Amit Sthalekar and Saibal Dasgupta stated in the order ” We are further of the view that it would be necessary to issue interim direction to ensure that during the pendency of this matter in the Tribunal, the deemed forest area and the trees over the land in question are not to be cut or destroyed.”
The court has scheduled to hear the matter on June 30.
The green court also directed the government to constitute a four-member panel that would inspect the area and submits a report within four weeks’ time.
It is pertinent to be mentioned here that the GA department had asked the Horticulture department through an official communication to surrender 20.192 acres of land from Ekamra Kanan farm in October last year.
