Newlywed woman set on fire by in-laws in Jajpur

Jajpur: A newlywed woman sustained severe burn injuries after she was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws at Jalanda village under Korei police limits in Jajpur district, the police said.

Although the incident took place on October 23, the matter came to the fore on Wednesday after the video of the survivor’s father accusing her in-laws of committing the crime went viral over social media.

According to sources, one Bilash Chandra Das of Bhandaripokhari area in Bhadrak district had recently got her daughter married at Jalanda. After few days of marriage, the in-laws of the woman attempted to kill her by pouring kerosene and setting her on fire.

After the matter was learnt by villagers, they rushed to spot and rescued the woman to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). Later, they informed the matter to her parents.

The woman’s father reached the hospital and later shifted her to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, added sources.
