Bhubaneswar: The newly elected Dhamnagar MLA, Suryabansi Suraj on Wednesday took oath in the State Assembly in presence of senior BJP and other leaders.

Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukh administered him the oath of office following which he was officially declared the member of the House. Suraj, after taking the oath, sought the blessings of the Speaker and others. Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Jay Narayan Mishra and other party colleagues were present on the occasion.

Before the oath taking ceremony, the new MLA was accorded a rousing welcome at BJP State headquarters in Bhubaneswar. A special programme was organized at the party office to welcome him. Almost all the senior leaders congratulated him with floral bouquets.

State BJP president Samir Mohanty and other leaders welcomed him.

Suraj also expressed his sincere gratitude to the party and leaders. “I am mush indebted to my party and its leaders. I will remain grateful for ever to the people of Dhamnagar for their unconditional love and affection. I was contesting the by-election in a very pathetic condition as I had recently lost my father. In such a testing time, the people of Dhamnagar showers blessings on me,” he said.

Asked whether he would be given any party responsibility, he said this is absolutely an internal matter which will be decided by the party leadership only. “I will discharge my duty whatever the party will assign me”.

Suraj had emerged victorious in the recently concluded by-election to Dhamnagar assembly constituency. He defeated his nearest rival Abanti Dash of BJD by a margin of over 9,000 votes.
