New Cong chief name to be finalized by tonight: Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary

New Delhi: The CWC in all probability will finalize the name of new Congress chief by 9 pm on Saturday, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary said.

Chaudhary said :“We will meet again at 8.30 pm, it(name of new party chief) is expected to be finalised by 9 pm today itself”.

He said during the CWC meeting the UPA chief Sonia Gandhi and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi distanced themselves from the process to pick the next party chief of the grand old party.

The UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was quoted by news agencies as saying:”We cannot be part of this process”.

Rahul also left the meeting, saying he would be visiting his parliamentary constituency Wayanad in Kerala tomorrow, which is currently hit by heavy rains and subsequent floods.

The CWC was divided into five groups for different regions — northeast, east, north, west, and south to have wider consultations with leaders from across the country on deciding a new party chief.

Sonia said her name was included by default in the region-wise committees.
