Bhubaneswar: Subroto Bagchi, Chief Spokesperson on COVID-19, alleged that family members are responsible for negligence leading to six deaths due to coronavirus infection.
Addressing media persons here on Wednesday, Bagchi said that 17 persons have died due to the dreaded virus in the state so far. While nine percent among them were above 60-years,11 persons had comorbidities, he added.
The COVID chief spokesperson said they contracted coronavirus despite having no travel history nor they have stepped out of their homes. They died due to their family members as they did not take necessary precautions, he said.
Bagchi said elderly persons above the 60 years are at higher risk and added that even if they recover from coronavirus the infection leaves their lungs permanently damaged.
The COVID spokesperson said it is always important to wear a mask and sanitize hands before attending to them. Their walking sticks, wheel chair, and mobile phones must be disinfected on a daily basis, Bagchi added.
