Nayagarh Minor Murder Case: SIT Arrests One Person

Bhubaneswar: The Special Investigation Team of Odisha Crime Branch on Sunday arrested one person in connection with the murder case of a 5-year-old girl in Nayagarh district.

Official sources said the accused, a resident of Jadupur village under Nayagarh Sadar police limits, will be produced before the POCSO Court tomorrow.

A case has been registered under Section 364, 302, 376 (AB), 376 (A) and 201 of IPC read with Section 6 of POCSO Act.

However, the investigation team did not provide the details of the person arrested in connection with the minor girl murder case.

On Saturday, the SIT had picked one Saroj Sethy, a college student, from Jadupur village along with two of his family members from the village for interrogation in connection with the case. The investigating team released Saroj’s mother and sister yesterday.

In its probe status report, the SIT informed the Orissa High Court that the minor girl was sexually assaulted before being brutally killed. The High Court fixed the next hearing of the murder case on December 24.

Worth mentioning, the minor went missing while playing near her house on July 13. Her skeletal remains stacked in a gunny bag was found in the backside of her house on July 23.

The incident came to fore after girl’s parents attempted self-immolation in front of the State Legislative Assembly in Bhubaneswar on November 24.
