Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today distributed free laptops to meritorious +2 pass out students under the “Biju Sashaktikaran Yojana” at the Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
Every year, the Odisha Government distributes 15,000 laptops to meritorious +2 pass out students under the Biju Sashaktikaran Yojana which started since 2013. As many as 90,203 students have been covered under the scheme till now.
Earlier, the top 15,000 students from different streams- Arts/Science/Commerce/Vocational/Sanskrit and different categories such as General/SC/ST were selected on merit basis at the State level. However, this year meritorious students have been selected at the district level by a selection committee constituted by the state government.
This year, the students have been provided with Lenovo laptops at a cost of Rs 29, 554 each. While 9,491 meritorious students from the General category were selected for getting free laptops, 5,509 got selected from the SC/ST category.
