National Highway Projects In Odisha Put On First Track

Bhubaneswar: The National Highway projects in Odisha have been put on the first track with Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy taking a review of the ongoing projects.

Taking a project wise review Sri Tripathy wanted to know about the problems and bottlenecks, if any, in process of implementation and directed the executing agencies to complete the projects well before the scheduled time by enhancing implementation capacity at the ground level.

Presenting details of the projects, Chief general Manager NHAI, Odisha, Ramprasad Panda said, “No issue relating to the projects is pending with State Government. He mentioned that presently 5753 kms of NH roads are there in the State out of which 1912 kms are under the charge of NHAI and 2935 Km are under the charge of State Roads & buildings department. An additional 906 kms roads in the State have been declared as NH and they would be soon entrusted either to NHAI or to State for up-keeping.

Review show, presently 22 number of upgrading projects including 4-laning, 6-laving, fly over and bridge projects are under implementation in the State. Target has been set to complete the construction of 366 kms of NH in the FY 2019-20 with a total estimated cost of around Rs.20,000 cr. Out of this so far 173 Kms have been completed with the utilization of around Rs.1651 cr. Chief Secretary directed to expedite construction works through constant monitoring of the contract agreements.

Four-laning of the Panikoili-Rimuli section of NH 215 (New NH-20) figured in the meeting. CGM Sri Panda appraised that there was 95% physical progress in the work Out of the total length of around 166 kms, 4-lining was completed in 152 kms and 2 laning was completed in 14 kms. There was no issue pending with the State Government for the progress of the project. The problems cropped up at the level of concessioner and the lender. The balance work included around seven kms of the carriageway, three bridges, one elephant underpass and around nine kms of service roads. He added that the problems would be resolved soon and the balance work would be completed expeditiously. Replying to a media query after the meeting Sri Panda said, “a new mega NH project Raipur-Vishakhapatnam is in pipeline. Around 240 kms of this project will not through the districts of Nabrangpur and Koraput. This will be a greenfield 6 lane project in Odisha”.

Secretary Works Sri Krishan Kumar along with senior officers from NHAI participated in the review.
