Bhubaneswar: The Nandankanan Zoological Park located in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar has been closed for an indefinite period following extensive damage caused by cyclone FANI.
The extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani had hit Odisha coast near Puri on Friday morning, causing widespread damage to power infrastructure, thatched houses, and standing trees.
The entire flora and fauna spread over 437-hectare of land of NZP also came under its effect and was completely destroyed. The zoo officials had to arrange several veterinary doctors in case of injuries to the animals.
Taking note of the loss of the tranquil surrounding of the park, the NZP authorities decided to close it for an indefinite period till the complete restoration.
