Namami Gange: PM Modi to cruise on Ganga to examine cleansing impact

Lucknow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will cruise on Ganga in Kanpur for examining the impact of ‘Namami Gange’ on Saturday.

PM Modi is also scheduled to chair the first meeting of National Ganga Council.

Reports said the PM will sail on the Ganga river in the city to examine the impact of government’s ambitious programme ‘Namami Gange’ which aims to cleanse the holy river.

Twelve union ministers, nine secretaries of central departments are slated to arrive in Kanpur, late on Friday, to mark their presence in the first meeting of the National Ganga Council on Saturday.

The chief ministers of the five Gangetic states – Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Bihar are also expected to reach Kanpur by Friday night.

A confirmation from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is still awaited.

It is likely that the Prime Minister may announce a slew of new measures under ‘Namami Gange’ as the project has not been able to make a visible change in the waters of the stream.
