NALCO Bags Odisha Excellence Award 2019
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal conferred the 2nd edition of the prestigious Odisha Excellence Award (OEA). A total of 20 awards have been given away; 17 personalities and 3 organisations.
India’s aluminum giant and Navratna company NALCO have been awarded this much-acclaimed award of the state in the category of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Mr. Anil Kumar Panda, DGM- CSR, NALCO, received the award from honorable Governor Prof Lal.
Established in the year 1981, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna CPSE under Ministry of Mines needs no introduction. Headquartered at Bhubaneswar, NALCO has been at the forefront of bringing development to the state of Odisha since its inception and striving to play a significant role in the socio-economic development in its operational areas through its emphatic CSR activities.
One of the first CPSEs to have a CSR Policy, it has spent Rs. 355 crores towards CSR activities till 2018-19. Its notable efforts include Indradhanush scheme, where the company has sponsored 920 tribal children of Maoist infested Damanjodi sector and provided education to them in 3 reputed residential schools. It has adopted 416 meritorious girl students of BPL families at Angul and Damanjodi sector with financial support under Nalco ki Ladli scheme. Recognising the healthcare needs, NALCO is operating 8 Mobile Health Units in peripheral villages catering to the needs of more than one lakh patients, in free. It is also setting up a secondary modern eye care hospital at Angul and night shelter in AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
