Mundali receives season’s first floodwater


Cuttack: The season’s first flood water released by Hirakud Dam into Mahanadi river on August 5 reached Mundali here on Sunday.

With this development, the water level of Mahanadi and Kathajodi rivers has started increasing. The excess water is being diverted from Mundali to Kathajodi River, through Naraj barrage, and Mahanadi and its other tributaries through Jobra barrage.

As per official reports, the water flow at Mundali stood at 1.72 lakh cusecs per second by 6 am. The barrage has the capacity to handle a flow of 12 lakh cusecs per seconds.

Reportedly, the upstream water level at Mundali is 87.30 ft and the downstream water level is at 77.30 ft against the danger level of 97.25 ft.
