Lucknow: The last rites of Samajwadi Party supremo and three-time chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav will take place at his ancestral home in Saifai today. The cremation will take place around 3 pm.
Many political leaders from across the country are expected to attend the funeral today.
Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away on Monday morning at a Gurugram hospital after prolonged illness. The 82-year-old politician was admitted to the hospital since August and on October 2, he was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Gurugram-based hospital.
Born on November 22, 1939, Yadav spawned the state’s most prominent political clan. He served as defence minister from 1996 to1998 and chief minister thrice in 1989-91, 1993-95, and 2003-07. The SP chief was elected as MLA eight times and as MP, mostly from Mainpuri, Sambhal and Azamgarh, seven times.
