Malkangiri: Scores of people in MPV 2 village in Malkangiri district were marooned after Tamasa canal was breached on Wednesday afternoon.
Villagers alleged that poor construction work has been responsible for the breach. The entire village has been submerged under knee-dip water.
Hundreds of acres of paddy fields are also submerged underwater. Flooding has destroyed produces worth over lakhs of rupees, villagers alleged.
Chief Engineer Chandra Sekhar Mishra said the canal will be repaired soon. Meanwhile, some villagers have shifted to safer places with whatever they could collect from their submerged houses.
Villagers alleged that none from the district administration are yet to visit their area. Besides, no relief material has also reached them, they further alleged.
