Bhadrak: A mother-son duo on Friday tried to end their lives by setting themselves afire in front of Bhadrak SP office. They were immediately rescued by the police.
Reports said the woman and her son took the extreme step after being harassed over the years relating to a land dispute.
They were identified as Panchanan Patra and Jyotishnarani Patra of Ganijang in Bhadrak district. Reports said they had come to lodge a complaint at SP office that their land has been encroached upon and they are not getting relief despite a court order to the effect.
The duo said they have met District Collector, Tehsildar and requested police officials including SP a number of times to get them justice, but usurpation of the land continues.
Worthwhile to mention that a GRS from Basudebpur had tried to set himself afire before BDO office yesterday for non-payment of salary.
