Deogarh: Most wanted criminal and an active member of Peoples’ Liberation Front of India (PLFI), Abhinash Topno (45) has been arrested by Barkot police.
According to sources, Topno, a resident of Khunti district in Jharkhand, was a prime accused in 2019 dacoity case. Since then he was on the run. Despite manhunt at several places, the cops were unable to trace him.
However, on Wednesday, acting on reliable inputs about the presence of the accused in the forest near Kelada village, a special team was formed by Deogarh SP Rahul Jain. The team comprising SDPO Sulaiman Ekka, Barkot PS IIC Chitta Ranjan Behera along with other officials conducted a raid and apprehended him. One pistol and a live bullet were also seized from his possession.
A case (162/19) was registered against Topno under Sections 457, 395, 120 B of the IPC and 25/27 of the Arms Act and forwarded to court. Several criminal cases including murder, arms smuggling, loot, dacoity, are pending against Topno at different police stations, the police said.
Topno has been reportedly taken into remand after his bail plea was rejected by the court.
