Most wanted Maoist cadre carrying Rs 5L bounty surrenders in Koraput


Koraput:  A most wanted Maoist cadre, carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh, surrendered before DIG of police, South Western Range Himansu Lal, in Koraput on Sunday.

The surrender rebel has been identified as Dhananjaya Gope, alias Sudheer, a resident of MPV-31 under Kalimela police limits of Malkangiri district.  He was a divisional committee member (DCM) of the outlawed organisation.

Dhananjaya will get monetary assistance and will be rehabilitated under the Surrender and Rehabilitation Police of the State Government, the police said.

A press note, released by police stated that the main reason for which Sudheer left the Ultras’ group is the introduction Gurupriya Setu (Bridge). He realised that development has been affected by the violent approaches of the red rebels in the area.

Another reason for which Dhananjaya decided to quit the banned outfit was the ill-treatment meted out on him by other cadres of the Naxal outfit.

Reportedly, Sudheer had joined the banned organisation in 2009 and has been working as a DCM for the Kalimela Area Committee of Malkangiri Division under Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC).

Later, he worked in Gumma area under MKVB division and was carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh since 2015. He was also allegedly involved in as many as 27 violent activities including the killing of many civilians, burning of road construction machines, blasting of a block office and firing at security personnel.
