Misogynistic poster row: Papu-Dutee spat ends as actor tenders public apology

Bhubaneswar: A raging controversy over a “misogynistic” poster of upcoming Odia movie ‘Mr Kanhaiya’ took another turn after actor Papu Pom Pom apologised to Dutee Chand in a televised interview on Tuesday.

Actor-comedian Papu in the apology regretted the statements he said referring to the ace athlete. Besides, he also stated that he was instigated into making those statements. Describing Dutee as his younger sister he tendered a heartfelt apology to Dutee in the interview.

Dutee who was also a part of the interview through a voice call later forgave him stating that she had no personal vendetta against him as their professional fields vary from each other.

Earlier, in an audio, the actor was heard criticising Dutee for her protests against the poster. In the demeaning audio, Papu stated that Dutee who is already drowned in controversies should handle her own business first. In further outbursts alluding to Chand’s same-sex relationship and humble origin, the actor said, “If women marry women, then who will men marry?”

Later Dutee, who was deeply hurt by Papu’s indecent personal comments, threatened to sue him unless he withdraws his words and apologises.

However, the matter came to rest after Papu publicly apologised Dutee for using harsh words against her.

Notably, Papu garnered criticism for the controversial poster that showcased seven women tied to seven leashes held by the actor.
