Nabarangpur: The body of a 16-year-old girl was recovered from a farmland just 3 kilometers away from her house under Kosagumuda Police limits here on Saturday.
The victim has been identified as a resident of Gumundali village under Bamini panchayat in the district.
According to sources, the victim went missing after 9 PM on Friday. Later, her body was recovered from an agricultural field this morning. On being informed by the locals, family members of the victim reached the spot and later lodged a complaint at a local police station.
Based on the complaint, police reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter. Preliminary investigation suggests that the girl was gang-raped and later was murdered to eliminate the evidence.
While locals alleged that miscreants called her from the house and committed the crime, the exact cause is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, the villagers have demanded strict action against the culprits.
