Nayagarh: A six-year-old girl, whose body was recovered yesterday, has been raped before being murdered, informed Nayagarh Superintendent of Police Sidhharth Kataria on Thursday.
“A 22-yr-old accused from the same village has been arrested in this regard and he has confessed to having committed the heinous crime,” SP Kataria said, in a media briefing.
According to reports, the minor girl went missing on June 12 while she was playing in the village at Nuagaon Panchayat under Banigochha police station limits. The family then carried out a frantic search but in vain. The following day they lodged a complaint with the police.
Taking the matter seriously, the police launched an investigation. A team carried out a search, with the help of locals, and found the missing minor girl’s body dumped in a deserted place outside the village.
