Bhubaneswar: In the latest development to the death of BJD woman leader Meenakshi Mishra, DGP Abhay on Monday ordered a high-level enquiry into the case.
As per reports, Rekha Lohani, IGP Modernization, will conduct the inquiry. The inquiry will probe various aspects (including her self-immolation, role of the cops, her son’s arrest, etc) that led to her death.
Few days after being admitted to a city-based private hospital, BJD leader Minakshi Mishra of Berhampur succumbed to burns on February 20.
The senior leader of ruling Biju Janata Dal’s women wing set herself afire in front of Berhampur SP office.
Meenakshi Mishra, who had grievances over police action against her son, sustained about 60 per cent burns and was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. Since there is no burn unit in the medical college, she was later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. She was later admitted to a private hospital as her health condition deteriorated.
According to sources, a group clash had ensued in front of the House of the BJD leader on January 28 on the issue of parking of vehicles. Following the incident, police had arrested five youths, including her son Raja.
Protesting against the arrest of her son, Minakhi had come to meet the SP at his office. Since SP was not in the office, she met the additional SP.
Later, she set herself on fire by pouring kerosene on her body.
