MCL landslide: Naveen announces Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for kin of deceased

Bhubaneswar: Expressing grief over the death of the workers due to landslide in Bharatpur Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for each kin of the deceased.

Reportedly, the bodies of two workers have been recovered till now while rescue operation to trace the other workers is still underway.

Notably, a landslide occurred to the blasting in Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) in Bharatpur late on Tuesday night. All the workers present during the incident got trapped under 1 km deep.

MCL’s security personnel, police and Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

While ten workers were rescued on the first day, three others are feared to be dead due to asphyxiation caused by the rain prevailing in the city.
