Maoists torch 4 vehicles in Kandhamal protesting road construction work
Kandhamal: After few days of respite, Maoist menace again gripped Kandhamal district after the ultras torched a number of vehicles while attacking a road construction camp in Gumudumaha village under Baliguda tehsil on Wednesday night.
Reportedly, a group of armed members of the KKBN (Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh) Division of outlawed CPI (Maoist) group stormed into the construction camp set up under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in the village late night and attacked the staff and labourers present at the site. They later set construction vehicles afire.
At least three tractors and a backhoe loader machine were reduced to ashes after the red rebels torched them.
In a hand-written poster, the Maoists have warned the contractor engaged in the road construction work and villagers before leaving the spot.
The posters were seen with messages protesting the road construction work, dubbing those as efforts to steal mineral and forest resources from the district.
Following the incident, police have intensified combing in and around the area.
